A Simple 2-Ingredients Soak For Softer, Smoother Heels

Sometimes the wackiest ideas end up being the most effective, and that is definitely the case with this foot soak! Try it, I dare ya!

I’ve dealt with dry, cracked heels on and off for almost my entire life. It’s something of a curse, brought about by my naturally dry skin and my love of sandals.

Up until now, I’ve experienced the most improvement after using the Atrac-tain cream I wrote about in this blog post. And although this cream does work really well, it isn’t very easy to find and it isn’t particularly cheap either!

So when I came across this (admittedly wacky) “listerine and vinegar foot soak” idea, I figured I should give it a try. Because if my years of blogging about home remedies have taught me anything, it’s that sometimes the wackiest ideas work the best! :-)

While I was fairly skeptical about this foot soak at first, I’m happy to report that it really does work! After just 15 minutes and a bit of scrubbing, my feet (and most importantly, my heels) were much softer and smoother!

I will definitely continue using this foot soak to help prevent more of those painful cracks from forming. Here’s everything you need to know so you can give it a try at home!

(Note: The recipe below makes one quart of foot soak mixture. You may want to double, triple, or quadruple the amounts listed in the recipe depending on the size of your foot bath!)
A Simple 2-Ingredients Soak For Softer, Smoother Heels

Listerine & Vinegar Foot Soak
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Original Listerine (or other yellow antiseptic mouthwash*)
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 2 cups warm water

*Note: Any kind of mouthwash will work for this purpose, but the bright blue or green ones often have a tendency to stain skin. The stain fades pretty quickly, but if you want to avoid the issue entirely, use a yellow mouthwash instead!

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a foot bath. Soak your feet for 10-15 minutes, then use a foot file, pumice stone, or even a scrubby sponge to help slough off the softened dead skin.
  2. I was able to easily file off a good amount of the dry skin after just one soak. I have a bit more to go, but I have no doubt that another couple of soaks will take care of the rest!
  3. If you are one of the unfortunate ones who suffers from dry, cracked heels like I do, I strongly suggest you give this a try! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the results!

What is your favorite remedy for dry, cracked heels and feet?
